National Train Day 2013 Was a Huge Success!

2013 national train day logoThe Rio Metro Regional Transit District would like to thank the thousands who attended, and the many partners and volunteers for their efforts in making the third annual National Train Day event on May 11 a great success! Families were able to view trains big and small, enjoy live entertainment and join in the many activities throughout the Alvarado Transportation Center in Downtown Albuquerque.

This event continues to attract more and more attendees each year because of the efforts of those involved who worked collaboratively with one goal in mind – a fun, safe, family event to celebrate the importance of train travel in our country. We are already excited to plan for another great celebration for 2014!

National Train Day 2013 Event Details

Celebrate America's love for trains on Saturday, May 11. This year, the Rio Metro Regional Transit District will be hosting the third annual National Train Day from 1pm-5pm at the Alvarado Transportation Center in Albuquerque. This great event will feature free live entertainment, local food vendors, interactive and educational exhibits, activities, raffles and elaborate model train displays. In addition to tours of the New Mexico Rail Runner Express, and tours of rail cars and locomotives from Burlington Northern Santa Fe trains, Amtrak is sending a special train to Albuquerque – their 40 th Anniversary Exhibit train - to look at rail’s past, present, and future. Amtrak is also sending their Chuggington Kids Depot with train-themed kids’ activities. The Santa Fe Children’s Museum will also have a Children’s Interactive Train Display that allows kids to be the “Engineer at the switchyard”.

Make a day of it with the family and take the train! View the Saturday Rail Runner Express schedule.
