The Mid-Region Council of Governments recently held a series of open house meetings on the Paseo del Norte High Capacity Transit Study. At the October 29 open houses, representatives shared information on the transportation needs identified by the study and the details of the draft preferred alternative. The public was encouraged to attend and provide their comments.
The draft preferred alternative reflects the current transportation needs of the corridor and the critical challenge that river crossings present to the future of travel in metro area. Socioeconomic forecasts by MRCOG indicate that more than half of all growth projected for the metro area will occur on the Westside. This, combined with employment continuing to primarily be located on the Eastside, will result in twice as many cross-river trips and a dramatic increase in congestion and travel times.
