Ticketing

New Mexico Rail Runner Express train tickets can be purchased on the train, online or on the Rail Runner ticketing app. Fares are calculated based upon your individual or group travel needs and the number of zones traveled.

Purchase a Ticket on the Train

  • Board the Train: After consulting a schedule, simply go to the New Mexico Rail Runner Express station and get on the appropriate train.
  • Pay Your Fare: After the train starts moving, a ticket agent will come by and collect fares. Tickets may be purchased onboard the train with cash or a debit or credit card (except American Express). Cash App, Apple Pay, and Google Pay are also accepted onboard.

Purchase a Ticket Online

The following instructions are provided to guide you through purchasing you ticket online:

  • Where are you traveling? Select the station where you will begin your trip (origin) and the station you will be traveling to (destination). Select "continue". 
  • Sign up or log in: Sign up to create an account or log in to you existing account to purchase a ticket.
  • How do you want to use your ticket? Choose "printable ticket" to create a PDF ticket to print or store on your phone, or select "mobile ticket" to use the ticket on the mobile app.
  • What type of ticket do you need? Choose between single trip (one-way), unlimited trips on a single day, or unlimited trips for a month.
  • How many tickets would you like to purchase? Select the number of tickets needed. For those qualified for a reduced fare, select the number of tickets needed in the reduced fare category. 
  • Ticket regulations: A summary of your pending purchase is shown. Select "accept and continue" to acknowledge our ticket terms and continue to the purchase page.
  • Select your payment method: Add your valid credit card to the account to purchase a ticket. All major credit cards are accepted (except American Express). Passengers also have the option to add funds to their account and utilize this fund balance to purchase tickets. Select "accept and pay" to continue.
  • Access your PDF ticket: If you purchased a PDF ticket, select "view ticket receipts" to view and download your printable ticket. 
  • Access your mobile ticket: If you purchased a mobile ticket it is available on the Rail Runner mobile app. After opening the app, navigate to the "ticket wallet" to find your mobile ticket. IMPORTANT: Do not activate your mobile ticket until just prior to boarding the train.

The Rail Runner app, which is available for both iPhone and Android, allows passengers to purchase tickets, view the schedule, view rider alerts, and more.

Ticketing Info

  • New Mexico Rail Runner Express Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable
  • Tickets are not refundable if lost, damaged, stolen or destroyed
  • Tickets are not refundable if the passenger purchased a ticket and didn’t use it, purchased the wrong date or wrong station or if a ticket is purchased at a discounted rate without qualification
  • Tickets purchased using the mobile app will not be refunded if accidentally activated
  • Purchasing a ticket in advance online does not guarantee a seat; seating is available on a first come - first served basis
  • Children 9 and under ride free
  • Active Duty Military and Veterans that show one of the following forms of ID ride free: a VHIC or VA medical card, a veteran’s ID (VIC card), a driver’s license with a veteran’s designation, Department of Defense Active Duty & Dependent Military IDs, and the NMRX Freedom Pass
